Grrls Rule

Focusing on Riot Grrrl culture and translating that through our two archetypes of sleepwear/lingerie and t-shirts. There were 3 original images that my collaborator and I wanted to translate into the collection which brought us to the idea of “one garment, two people” and the idea of horizontal draping. After studying vintage nightgowns and were able to incorporate the original lace in our designs that involved a tradition nightgown shape. Experimenting with the simple t-shirt and transforming it into a shirt with two head holes lending to our original research images. Focusing on soft, muted colors to mimic the vintage sleepwear that most we achieved by natural dyes including avocado skins/pits, tea, and beets. The final goal was to create a wardrobe for this girl that we created, with a heavy influence of Riot Grrrl and the Kinder Whore aesthetic. Our biggest inspiration was for sure Courtney Love, the lead singer of Hole as well as a solo artist. As well was theRiot Grrrl group Bikini Kill.
